Dachshund Festival Delights Port Macquarie!
Tacking Point Tavern’s inaugural Dachshund Festival was a resounding success, bringing joy to dog lovers and their furry companions alike. Venue Manager Billy Dietrich aptly described the event as a “Tail-wagging triumph! We are howling with excitement to confirm the newest annual event at TPT!”
A Record Turnout of Sausage Dogs and Their Fans
As the clock struck noon, over 70 dachshunds began to roll in, accompanied by their devoted owners. The festival saw a unique sight where the number of dogs outnumbered the people, with many attendees bringing multiple pets! The pups showcased an array of shapes, sizes, and personalities, adding to the fun atmosphere.
Blessed with sunny weather, the Port Macquarie Dachshund community attended in full force, along with visitors from as far as Coffs Harbour to Nabiac.
Highlight of the Day: The Awards Ceremony
The pinnacle of the event was the awards ceremony, particularly the best-dressed competition. Creativity was on full display as dachshunds strutted their stuff in various outfits, ranging from crocheted jackets to fairy princess costumes. The title of best-dressed ultimately went to Rasta, the Rastafarian dachshund, whose look stole the show.
Delicious Delights and Dog-Friendly Treats
Complementing the festivities were the menu specials like pork and fennel bangers, chorizo, pepperoni pizza and chili dogs, proving to be a hit among attendees. Dogs on the Avenue also supplied doggie treats for the four legged guests!
Gratitude and Future Plans
The success of the Dachshund Fest wouldn’t have been possible without the support of sponsors and the active participation of Port Macquarie dachshund families. “We are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success,” said the event organizers.
Looking ahead, plans are already underway for an even bigger and better Dachshund Festival next year. “We have some exciting new additions planned for the 2025 line-up,” said Billy. Rhiannon, a festival attendee and Flower Hotels employee, summed up the day perfectly: “It was such a fun day and something out of the ordinary, nothing like I have been to before.”
