Community Shines at the Beechwood Billycart Classic!

The 2024 Beechwood Billycart Classic was an absolute hit, bringing together the local community for a day full of excitement, friendly competition, and family fun. With over 320 people counted by midday, the event showcased the vibrant spirit of Beechwood and the strength of local support.

Established in 1980, The Beechwood Billycart Classic is the biggest billy cart race on the Mid North Coast, reaching speeds of 100kph racing down Mt Pappinbarra.

The Beechwood Shamrocks RLFC, Beechwood Cricket Club Inc., Beechwood Hotel Fishing Club (BHFC), Beechwood Public School, and the entire organising committee of the Beechwood Billycart Classic worked tirelessly to put on a day to remember. Their combined efforts and dedication ensured the event ran smoothly, delivering an experience the whole community could enjoy. Adding to the atmosphere was a live performance at The Beechwood Hotel from Jessica Flanagan, whose music set the perfect tone for the day.

One of the most memorable parts of the event was undoubtedly the kids’ billy cart races. Excited young racers took to the track in their handcrafted carts, showing off their creativity, teamwork, and a few daring maneuvers.

The 5km adult's course attracts entries from far and wide. The course starts on Mt Pappinbarra, and winds through sharp bends and fast straights, before flattening out, with a couple of slight uphill stretches, before the last run down to the finish line at the Beechwood Hotel.

The local support throughout the event was incredible. The Beechwood Public School Parent and Community Association stepped up to organise the popular market stalls and children's activities. The jumping castle and face painting proved to be a hit for young spectators on the day. Meanwhile, the Beechwood Cricket Club provided invaluable support and hands-on help, ensuring the day was both fun and seamless for everyone involved.
